Madame Catherine at PLAYGROUND DETROIT: Lumiere
Madame Catherine at Lumiere
June 2025
This spring, I exhibited my piece Madame Catherine as part of Lumiere, a group photography exhibition curated by Composing Detroit and presented at PLAYGROUND DETROIT. The show featured image-based works by Detroit artists exploring the metaphors, distortions, and material realities of light.
Madame Catherine is a woman in her own power. First created in 2015, the piece continues my exploration of constructed identity, feminine myth, and the devotional image. Within the space of the gallery, she became part icon, part glitch—intimate, fractured, and insistently present.
The opening was full of warmth, conversation, and beautifully strange work. I’m grateful to have shared the evening with such thoughtful artists and to Composing Detroit and PLAYGROUND DETROIT for supporting expansive, lens-based practices.
